Our Story
Meet Candace
Hi! My name is Candace but my friends call me Candi. I am a mother of 6 and after having homeschooled all my children for most of their foundational years I created a micro-school. I then created a non-traditional micro-school directory because I learned that finding these opportunities can be hard if you don’t know where to look!
I wanted to lift the mystery. For those who are already involved in this type of education, you can see that they are all around you. Literally everywhere! Microschool Florida was a way to connect parents with educators, and show families that they are not trapped in a one-size-fits-all education for their children. Microschools, Homeschool Pods, Programs, and Tutors are paving the way. There are so many choices that are personalized, creative, and empowering.

The Challenge

Hindsight is always 20/20. My reasons for supporting non-traditional education, microschools, and home education have grown since I first started homeschooling my own six children almost 20 years ago. I started my own microschool, Tapestry Academy, in 2018, and it has been an amazing journey and a rewarding experience.
The ability to choose topics to study that interest you, the ability to go faster if you want, field trips anytime, more hands-on-learning. Time to read books for enjoyment, time to be a kid still, time to study, and time to play. Building relationships with families and friends instead of wondering who my child's friends are. Changing the focus from pressure for homework not done to setting daily and weekly goals and inspiring them to work their best, and have projects and deadlines with purpose.
I am grateful that we chose to take a different path, even if we started by thinking "only for a few more years." If you're considering something different, it will be ok. It may even be great! You may even consider doing it all the way through to the end of high school. So many have blazed the trail! It's easier to envision now!
My purpose for Microschool Florida is to share this information with parents and educators. There are so many options that are personalized, creative, and empowering.
